The warden overseeing the lower Manhattan jail where convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein was found dead of apparent suicide Saturday has been reassigned pending an investigation, it was announced Tuesday.
Attorney General William Barr himself made the decision to reassign Metropolitan Correctional Center warden Shirley Skipper-Scott, according to a Justice Department spokesperson.
In addition to Skipper-Scott, the Bureau of Prisons has also placed two MCC staffers who were assigned to Epstein’s unit on leave for the duration of the investigation, the Department said.
FCI Otisville Warden James Petrucci has been named Acting Warden of the MCC New York. Otisville, a medium-security lock-up, is currently home to President Trump’s former fixer Michael Cohen and Fyre Fest fraudster Billy McFarland.
Skipper-Scott could not be immediately reached for comment.
Epstein, who was facing sex trafficking charges, was found unresponsive in his cell early Saturday morning. He was later declared dead at the hospital.
Sources told the Post Epstein hanged himself with a bedsheet, after being removed from suicide watch following another alleged attempt to take his own life.
He hadn’t been checked on for several hours.
