Republican Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis trolled Mayor de Blasio as he spent the weekend campaigning in Iowa instead of attending the Puerto Rican Day Parade in Manhattan on Sunday.

She retweeted a photo from NY1 correspondent Gloria Pazmino showing Hizzoner and his wife, Chirlane McCray, standing before a large sign that said “Greetings from Waterloo, Iowa.”

“Retweet to remind Bill & Chirlane that #NYC’s homeless population is nearly the same as the entire population of Waterloo, Iowa,” posted Malliotakis, who lost to de Blasio in 2017.

According to the Coalition for the Homeless there were 61,782 homeless people in NYC in April 2019.

The population of Waterloo is 67,587.

De Blasio and his wife stopped at the Payne AME Church in Waterloo during a day of campaigning that will later include a major Democratic Party fundraiser in Cedar Rapids with other 2020 presidential candidates.

The church pastor as he introduced the mayor and his wife mentioned that he had also heard from the Rev. Al Sharpton earlier in the day.

“Not clear if the Rev put in a good word for the mayor,” Pazmino said in a posting.
